Averitt, Mobile, AL The Topocean Group, a global freight forwarding and logistics service provider, recently honored Averitt with the “Outstanding Logistics Partner Award.” Averitt opened its Mobile service center in 1988 to provide less-than-truckload and full load freight transportation to shippers throughout the region. Since then, the company’s services in the area have expanded to support the growing operations at the Port of Mobile. “Mobile is increasingly a port of choice for importers and exporters that move cargo through the Gulf of Mexico,” said Wayne Spain, Averitt’s president and chief operating officer. “We look forward to continuing to serve the local, national and international needs of shippers across the region.”

abcSigns is a family-owned company started by Greg Callahan Sr. out of his garage over 20 years ago and after having a few successful locations, he then relocated to a 23,000 square-foot facility in ‘downtown’ Theodore 10 years ago. Mostly a political sign company that does the majority of its work nationally, abcSigns prides itself in taking care of and helping, schools, churches and ball parks locally every chance they get. Donating signage to help fund-raisers and charitable events is one of the few ways abcSigns tries to help the community, neighbors & friends in times of need.

Landshark Promotions is a promotional products, embroidery, and custom print distributor that helps businesses find innovative products that reflect their brand. Founded in 2011 by Chrissy Robinson, Landshark is a woman-owned & operated company located in the heart of Downtown Mobile. Customer service is our top priority and we pride ourselves on giving each client personalized attention. Our clientele ranges from large universities ordering give-a-ways for their students, to HVAC and plumbing companies ordering hats and shirts for their employees, to engaged couples that need coozies for their special day. Camellia Trophy and Specialties has been servicing the Mobile area since 1958. Originally opened by Tom Nonnenmacher as Camellia Bowling Supply at Airport and McGregor and moved to the current location on the Beltline in the mid-eighties. Bill Everett bought the shop in 1988 and it grew into more than a trophy shop adding specialty and promotional items. After owning and operating it for more than 2 decades Bill retired and sold it back to John Nonnenmacher. “Mobile county is our home, and it has supported us for over 60 years. We hope in our small way we have given back. Whether it is a smile to the t-ball player getting his first trophy and even to the veteran salesman with his crystal salesman of the year award.”

Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Alabama (HFHSWA) is a Christian non-profit organization, which has been providing affordable housing options for low-income families in Mobile County since 1988. Their mission is to seek to put God’s love into action to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope and has been committed to providing high-quality affordable housing since its inception. HFHSWA built and sold its first home in Mobile County in August 1990, and since then, has helped more than 230 families achieve their dream of homeownership through rehab and new construction homes. In addition they have completed 75 critical home repairs for owner occupied homes throughout our service area. HFHSWA is able to complete these affordable projects thanks to people in our community who volunteer, give financial donations, and shop or donate to our ReStore.

It has been the pleasure of the Chamber to recognize the heartbeat of our membership. We are a voice for businesses and are here to help promote and offer opportunities to watch small businesses grow, along with providing training classes to improve current business practices. On May 5th we will be revealing the winner of the Business of the Year Award and recognizing the company that has excelled in leadership and commitment to entrepreneurship.

We are asking our members to go to our website beginning April 1st to cast your vote for your favorite Business of the Year. Our monthly finalists are all deserving of this award and need your help. Votes can be cast daily until April 16th and the business that receives the most votes will be announced at our Small Business of the Year Luncheon, May 5th.
